Looking Back: April 2016

There are so many hot trends on the fashion scene at the moment, a lot of them that I love and just can't get enough of. I decided to feature a few of my favourite trends on the blog this month, starting with the classic nautical.

As soon as I saw this striped top in Zara I knew I had to buy it, well okay I say that with most things I buy from Zara. But honestly, I knew it would look great with my navy pencil skirt and a load of other things I own. I decided to team this particular outfit with stone heeled sandals and a navy gold chain bag for a finishing touch.

I've always been a bit reluctant to get in on the off shoulder trend, despite being a huge fan, as it tends to accentuate my chest and make my body proportions look ridiculous (lol). However, I was fortunate to come across this oversized striped top from boohoo.com that had a short flare at the bottom. Perfect for cinching in my waist and making my chest look smaller.

I also came across another top at boohoo.com, this incredible cold shouder top, that I love so much I had to get it in two colours; reliable black and hot on the catwalk blush pink. I decided to team both tops with faux leather mini skirts, in matching colours. Both outfits, whilst similar had totally different vibes; girly and rock chic. Funny how different colours and make-up can make such similar outfits look so very different.

Not hot on the scene, but still one of my favourites, I decided to also feature some African print garments, giving it a more western vibe with high-street buys; a black low cut bodysuit and a black tube midi skirt. I've had quite good feedback for both outfits, I've decided to do similar outfits in the near future.

I finished off the collection of looks with a full orange ensemble... a colour I will never get tired of. I love bold colours and this outfit has inspired me to feature more block colours and less black for the coming month.

Origins

'Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.'
- Desmond Tutu

I've been patiently waiting to show every and anyone my amazing pieces from Mia Elliott, a London based designer. Last year I had the pleasure of the designer making me some custom items in this bold mustard and ruby African print material; a full midi skirt, a crop top and a head-wrap (that can also be used as a belt). I decided to wear the pieces separately to achieve multiple looks, of which this is my second.

With this outfit I decided to stick to the colours of the crop top; wearing a long-line black waistcoat and a high waist black tube skirt. I finished off the look with these red heeled sandals and amazing suede fringed bag (that I picked up from my travels in Italy in 2014).

PICK OF THE WEEK: PLT Blush Chiffon Frill Trousers

Blush is big this season and it's definitely a colour to be seen in, that's if you know how to pull it off. I absolutely love these trousers from Pretty Little Thing and think they'll be a great addition to the Spring wardrobe. It'll look great with plenty of colours, particularly white and beige. However, if you want to brighten things up a bit, it'll look great clashed against navy, burgundy or if your brave enough... lime green.

At just £20 these are definitely worth considering. To get your hand on them visit the PLT website - www.prettylittlething.com.

Happy shopping.

'We don't need fashion to survive, we just desire it so much.'
- Marc Jacobs

If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm constantly switching up my style; what I wear on any given day is based purely on my mood, and today I felt feisty or rather fierce, so wet for a little rock chic look. I played with black in different textures and added a bit of sunshine with my yellow and black snake effect heeled sandals.

Tangerine

'The customer is the final filter. What survives the whole process is what people wear.  I'm not interested in making clothes that end up in some dusty museum.'
- Marc Jacobs

Spring is here and I've wasted no time in switching up my wardrobe, to transitional pieces. Today I decide to embrace the on trend off the shoulder look, with this dark orange cropped knit top and matching tailored trousers. Believe it or not, both are from Primark... yep I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them too. I finished off the look with some nude heels and a large tote bag that ties the two colours together.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Zara Faux Leather Jacket

Well it's no surprise that Zara is one of my favourite stores; with a lot of the pieces I feature being from the hugely successful retailer. And the retailer has done it again, pulled another great jacket out the bag... this amazing baby blue faux leather biker jacket.

Now you may have realised from my other posts that I already have this jacket in the much loved mustard hue, but I couldn't resist when I saw this beauty in store and just had to get it. So yes, I have the same jacket in two different colours. But at £39.99 it's a steal, definitely worth it.

Over here in the UK the weather is in a transitional state, though technically it is Spring, there's still the odd days of Winter weather lurking between the typical Spring sunshine and how can I forget the April showers. So with that in mind, it's the best time to get a jacket that's not only perfect for the transition but looks great with almost anything.

If you want to get your hands on this jacket check out the Zara website or visit your local store.

Happy shopping.

Blush Pink

'Fashion is the only attempt to realize art in living forms and social intercourse.'
- Sir Francis Bacon

So I decided to wear a colour that is huge on the scene right now; Blush Pink. I kept the colours mute, teaming the light pink with white. However, to give the outfit some character I incorporated different textures and cuts; teaming this faux leather wrap skirt with a cold shoulder ribbed top. I finished off the look with a white clutch, white perspex heeled sandals and cat eyed embellished sunglasses.
